Student Assistance Program (SAP) and Elementary CONNECT

SAP

The Pennsylvania Student Assistance Program (SAP) is a systematic team process used to organize school resources to remove learning barriers (e.g., truancy, disciplinary needs, mental health needs, and drug/alcohol/tobacco needs).  The mission of SAP is to help students overcome these barriers so that they may achieve, advance, and remain in school.

The South Middleton School District’s Student Assistance Program consists of a (START Team) at Yellow Breeches Middle School and Boiling Springs High School.  Each team consists of specially trained individuals in the High School and Middle School who work to identify issues that pose a barrier to a student's success.  If you have a concern about a student, please select the appropriate school in the Student Services tab, then contact a START team member.

Connect Team (K-5)

Connect is a team of faculty, staff, and local human services agency personnel. Their job is it to identify the needs of students at the elementary level, and refer them for additional support as needed.  Support may include school-based interventions and/or outside programs. Connect team members have been professionally trained in matters of dealing with the identification of student’s needs and the removal of barriers to learning within the school environment.

Teachers and other school staff who are concerned about a student can make referrals.  However, referrals are not limited to school staff. If you would like to make a referral, you can directly contact someone on the Connect Team or speak to an elementary  teacher.

Confidentiality Statement:

Start Team and Connect Team members are committed to the utmost confidentiality in all aspects of the intervention process.  Matters brought before the team will not be shared outside the team, unless there is a professional/parental need to know or the school has obtained a signed release to an associated partner.   Additionally, as school personnel, team members are mandated reporters and will report to the proper authorities suspected cases of child abuse.
