SMSD French Program Recognized as Exemplary with Honors

The American Association of Teachers of French has conferred its award of “Exemplary with Honors” on Boiling Springs High School in March of 2018.

This prestigious award recognizes the outstanding quality of the French program. Boiling Springs High School is one of five in the nation to receive the award in 2018 and the first French program in Pennsylvania to be recognized. The program makes use of innovative and creative methods in teaching, gives standards-based assessments, and offers numerous cultural activities beyond the classroom including student trips to France. The school participates in the AATF National French Contest and inducts students into the National French Honor Society, with many honorees annually. Other opportunities include the French Club participation in National Foreign Language Week activities, and the AP French Language & Culture course.

The Award committee noted that they were very impressed with the high quality of the program and the overall enthusiasm of the teachers and students. They appreciated our efforts to continue providing our students “the opportunities to discover other cultures as they learn about themselves in our connected world.”

French teachers Mrs. Cindy Bailey, Mr. Michael Bogdan, and Mrs. Emily Mater thank the engaged students of our French program as well as the continued support of parents, administration, and the Board of School Directors.
