Masks?

Students:

  • Yes, masks are required.

  • The mask must be worn over the nose and mouth.

  • Masks may be removed when eating at lunch when a 6ft distance can be maintained.

  • Masks may be removed when involved in physical activity outside. Again, 6ft distance.

Staff:

  • Yes, masks are required.

  • The mask must be worn over the nose and mouth.

  • Even if the staff member is vaccinated, the mask must be worn.

  • Masks may be removed when eating at lunch. Faculty lunch rooms are still closed.

District:

  • Yes, masks are required on district grounds and on district transportation.

  • The mask must be worn over the nose and mouth.

  • Spectators are asked to were masks at practices, games, and events.


Why stay with a 2:15 dismissal?

Students:

  • Consistency of schedule.

  • Time for additional help. Students could receive small group instruction for remediation or enrichment.

Staff:

  • Time for planning. Employees must adjust timeline and pacing from an every other day model to a 4 day per week schedule.

District:

  • Transportation. Extra time is needed to drop off secondary students and return for the elementary bus run.


Why only four (4) days per week?

Students:

  • Consistency of schedule. Students are accustomed to Zooms on Friday.

  • Students have expressed that they are stressed about returning to school 5 days per week. Transitioning from hybrid learning is hard.

Staff:

  • Time for planning. Employees must adjust timeline and pacing from an every other day model to a 4 day per week schedule.

  • Substitute shortage concern. Many teachers have personal days guaranteed to them through the collective bargaining agreement (CBA). Many use these days on Fridays in spring.

District:

  • A 4 day per week schedule mirrors other schools associated with SMSD, like the Vo-Tech and our Consortium partner schools.
