2024 SMSD Online Summer School Program



General Information:

The South Middleton School District Credit Recovery Summer School Program provides online remediation for students in grades 6-12 who have failed curriculum courses during the present school year and/or in past years. Summer school will consist of online courses which are offered by Capital Area Online Learning Association (CAOLA). 

This self-funded program attempts to meet the needs of as many students as possible to provide opportunities for them to stay on track with required graduation credits.

Summer School Registration Dates:

Open registration is from Monday, June 10th through Thursday, June 13th. All forms/payment must be received by June 13th in order to enroll in a summer remediation course.

Summer School payments can be mailed to or dropped off at the Boiling Springs High School Office between June 10 - June 13 from 7:00am to 3:00pm. Please note: HS office is closed on Friday, June 14. Cash, check or money order made payable to: SMSD.

Cost:

Credit recovery course costs vary based on course failures

    • $150 each for core subjects (Math, Science, History, English, Foreign Language, and Health/PE)
    • $255 for all electives
    • A minimum payment of 50% of the total cost is due at registration and balance is due on or before course completion. Failure to make final payment will result in no refund on payment made, and no course credit. 

No refunds will be given once students are registered for a CAOLA course.

Please note: If your student is enrolled in the free/reduced lunch program, courses will be offered at half price. $75 for 1 credit recovery core course; $127.50 for electives. (*Please write F/R on your form*)

Important Information:

  • Online Remediation Courses start June 17th and must be completed by July 26th.
  • Students in grades 6-12 who have failed curriculum courses between a 60%-69% during the present year or in a past school year are eligible.
  • All students with failing grades below 60% during the regular school year are not eligible for summer school.
  • Students will complete all remediation courses from home online.
  • SMSD buildings/offices are closed on Fridays throughout the summer.

Grading:

All passing grades for summer school courses will be entered as a 70% or the failing grade earned. No grade higher than a 70% will be given. This information will be forwarded to the student’s counselor and used accordingly. A letter will be sent home indicating the student’s final PASS/FAILURE status for each summer school course.

Additional Information:

Online teachers:  All online credit recovery courses have an online teacher that is there to help when a student has a question or if they are struggling. Online teachers also offer tutoring if additional support is needed.

Online Course Issues: If you are having any technical issues with your online course not working properly, please send an email to: [email protected]. Make sure to include your name, the course, and the issue you are experiencing.

Loaner Laptop Issues: If you are using a school issued loaner laptop and you are experiencing any computer related technical issues, please contact the SMSD help desk: [email protected].

Student Emails: It is very important that students check their bubblers.us email frequently during summer school! Enrollment information as well as username/password and getting started information will be sent to your bubblers.us email.
