The Buildings & Grounds Department strives to provide safe, clean, attractive grounds and facilities which support our District’s mission statement; to “provide a challenging education in a safe, supportive environment that empowers all students to become lifelong learners and productive, respectful citizens of our diverse and changing world.”

As we truly are one township, one community and one school district, we desire to be good stewards of the assets and investments placed in our care.


What is Buildings & Grounds?

The Buildings & Grounds Department encompasses the upkeep, repair, cleaning, grounds care and shipping/receiving functions of the District.

How Do I Request Repair Work?

Non-emergency items are addressed through building-level administration and secretaries through the use of SchoolDude. Once received and approved, the request will be assigned and scheduled for completion.

If an emergency exists (defined as: a situation that affects the life or safety of students and staff, causes disruption to the educational process, or is damaging property or belongings), call the Buildings & Grounds Department at 258-6484 x1421. Immediate action will be taken.

South Middleton School District has four educational buildings; the Boiling Springs High School, Yellow Breeches Middle School, Iron Forge Elementary School and W.G. Rice Elementary School.

 

Vehicle Use - District-Owned Vehicle Use Procedure

School district employees who wish to use a District-owned vehicle for the transport of students or for business-related trips should read the document "Vehicle Use Procedure SMSD." Complete the associated checklist and forward all documents to the secretary of the Buildings & Grounds Department.

The required online safety training video is accessed via this link to SafeSchools Training.

SafeSchools online training directions: Use the first 3 or 4 characters of your school district email address as your username. Once recognized, click on the 'Log Me In' button. At the top of the next page click 'Extra Training' and scroll down to 'Transportation.' Click the 'Van Safety' course and begin the training. When complete, print your completion certificate and forward a copy of your certificate to the Buildings & Grounds Department.
